The idea of a cat cafe started in 1998 in Taiwan. It was a simple idea of a normal cafe with adoptable cats. The original purpose of the cat café was to provide people who are not able to afford or allowed to keep pets in their small apartments the opportunity to play with cats in a safe environment. Cat cafes allow adoptable cats to live in a cage free environment, similar to a home instead of the outdoors. The influx of people helps the cats get used to humans, erasing a sense of fear. One the other hand, people benefit from petting cats as well as listening to a cat’s purr which can lower stress & help with mental health. Some people will only visit once out of curiosity, others frequently & hopefully some will get to know a cat well enough that they decide to adopt them, which is our main goal.
-
Our building is divided into two separate parts, one portion of the building is the café which is managed by Trilogy Kitchen. They are open from 8am to 2pm, Wednesday - Sunday. Closed on Mondays & Tuesdays.
The cat portion of the building is open Wednesday - Sunday from 10am to 3pm. Closed on Mondays & Tuesdays. Please note that we may close after our last appointment of the day, please call in advance if want to visit & did not make an appointment. Walk-ins are available but are not guaranteed, which is why we highly recommend making a reservation via our website.
-
Yes, it costs $11.00 for adults (13 & up) & $8.00 for children (12 & under) for an hour visit. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. We do not allow visitors to share time, if you leave before your hour is up you cannot share the remaining time with another person. Kitten room time is limited to 10 minutes per group (3 people).
NO READMITTANCE! Please plan accordingly before entering our space for your visit. Any drink orders made at the café can be delivered to the cat area for your convenience.
Please note that 6.5% Volusia County sales tax is added to the admission fee.
Please note that there is no entry fee to enter the café portion of the building.
-
Running a facility to house multiple cats is expensive, and the fee is our main source of funding. We provide a cage/kennel free environment for the cats that reside with us, the entry fees help cover all of the expenses associated with offering a wonderful foster home to the cats until they get adopted. Your entry fee makes this possible since we give adoption fees directly to the shelters & rescue partners.
-
Entrance fees are customary for cat cafes, we invite you to compare our fees to other cat cafes in Florida. We are the cheapest! However, we understand that not everyone is able or comfortable paying an entrance fee, which is why we encourage people to volunteer at their local animal shelter. Many shelters need dog walkers, bottle feeders, fosters, etc… Please contact Halifax Humane Society, New Hope Animal Shelter or your local animal shelter to learn about all of the ways you can volunteer & get your time loving animals for free.
-
Reservations for the cat area are not required & walk-ins are welcome. However, SPACE IS LIMITED & walk-ins are not guaranteed admittance, so we encourage reservations to secure entrance. The cats get scared when there are too many people inside, which is why we turn away walk-ins when we reach a certain amount of guests. Also, we may close after our last scheduled appointment. Please make sure to give us a call if you plan on visiting without an appointment since we do not guarantee admission.
Please note that you do not need a reservation for the café portion of the building.
-
If we are booked to capacity we refuse others from visiting & that includes walk-ins therefore we require 24 hours notice of cancellations in order to issue a refund. Refunds are not done automatically, please send an email to info@delandcatcafe.com

We clean everyday & the cats are really good at cleaning themselves everyday too.
-
Although we clean multiple times a day, have air purifiers, an exhaust system, fans & automatic litter boxes we still need to place multiple litter boxes for the cats to use so there will be a "cat" smell inside our space. We understand that some people are very sensitive to smells. We kindly ask that visitors make an effort to understand our circumstances before deciding to enter our space.

-
Yes! All of the cats are up for adoption. Adoption applications are set by the individual animal rescues, the adoption fee varies & is set by our rescue partners.

You must be 21 years old or older, must have a valid Florida Drivers License, must have a cat carrier & agree to a criminal background check. Adoptions only take place on Wednesdays through Fridays.
All cats & kittens come spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, flea medicated, microchipped & tested for feline AIDS, feline heartworm & feline leukemia.
Please note that we reserve the right to reject an adoption application & we are not obligated to explain why.
-
To view pictures of the cats that are currently up for adoption please check our social media:
Please keep in mind that the point of this space is to come inside, meet the cats, get to know them a bit & connect with a cat before actually adopting them. The idea is that cats will go to potential adopters when they are ready to be adopted, after being socialized. You may like how a cat looks or want a specific breed but that doesn’t mean it will be the be the best match for you.

The following information is from Kenzies Kitten Rescue:
WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FIND A NEONATE KITTEN:
A neonate kitten- is any kitten under the age of 4 weeks old. Some people do not know what to do when finding a neonate- and that’s okay. Hopefully this gives you some guidance and resources until you are able to find help.
**First: Wait & Watch**
You might have come across the kittens while their mother is off searching for food, or is in the process of moving them to a different location. Try to determine if the mother is coming back for them, or if they are truly orphaned.
To do this, stand far away from the kittens — 35 feet or more. If you stand too close, the mom will not approach her kittens. You might need to go away completely before the mother cat will return to attend to the kittens. It might be several hours before the mother cat returns
—Mother cats - will leave their babies for up to 4-5 hours or until she no longer senses the presence of humans hovering near her litter.
Leave the kittens in a box, bed of leaves, or another safe and warm location, far from you. If you need to leave before the mother cat comes back, carefully evaluate whether the kittens are in immediate danger
-Is it raining or snowing?
-Are dogs or wild animals that might harm the kittens running loose in the neighborhood?
-Does the neighborhood have kids or adults who are likely to harm the kittens?
-Are the kittens located in an area with heavy foot or car traffic?
To help with your decision, it is important to know that it might take several hours for the mother cat to return, and healthy kittens can survive this period without food as long as they are warm. Neonatal kittens are much more at risk of hypothermia than they are of starvation.
During spring and summer months, waiting a longer time to see if mom will come back is much safer than during winter months or when it’s raining. The mother cat offers her kittens’ best chance for survival, so wait and watch as long as you can. The best food for the kittens is their mother’s milk. Remove the kittens only if they are in immediate, grave danger!!!
If mom returns- offer food, and shelter.
Wait until they are weaned and contact your local animal control, shelter, or rescue. Most counties have TNR options- and can help you trap the mother and kittens to get them altered.
If the kittens are young- and can be socialized, the rescue or shelter might take them to find homes.
The mother NEEDS to be fixed. They can get pregnant almost immediately after having a litter.. Kittens need to be altered ASAP, they can get pregnant, or Impregnated other cats at 4 months old. Please spay / neuter- end the cycle.
**IF MOM DOES NOT COME BACK- or the kittens are taken/ found/ cold / in danger ETC they NEED to be kept warm! A heating pad on low- w a layer of fabric between the pad and kittens Socks filled w rice- in the microwave for 3-5 minutes Water in a Ziploc bag- in the microwave for 3-5 minutes . This helps keep them warm. Kittens cannot regulate their body temperature until they are 4 weeks old. Kittens have a better chance at survival when kept warm. Hypothermia kills them quicker than going w out food. Cold kittens can go into immediate organ failure. This step is VERY IMPORTANT!!! DO NOT FEED THE KITTEN! Cold kittens cannot digest their food- this is FATAL. REACH OUT TO RESCUES /SHELTERS immediately!!

_Saving cats + helping people : central Florida
_Concerned citizens for animal welfare
_Central Florida pet place ( cat, dog adoptions, advice, help, events )
-Lake & Volusia county animal rehoming, rescue, and fostering
Please ensure when reaching out on Facebook groups, the person taking the babies is:
1- backed by a rescue
2- an experienced bottle feeder / neonate care giver
3- has experience and supplies on hand to care for them immediately
4- is not more than an hour drive from your location,
5- ask for references/ proof of their experience
It is crucial that an experienced person, is caring for these babies. Inexperienced people WILL and HAVE taken in neonates. This is dangerous. Unsafe, and life threatening for the babies.
Please avoid feeding- if you are not experienced. Inappropriate feeding cat lead to aspiration. A cold kitten- cannot digest their food!! This is ultimately fatal.
Do NOT feed human/cows milk.
Do NOT feed “home made formula“
Do NOT feed w a Q-Tip
Do NOT syringe feed formula
